5 Ways to Ensure a Long-Lasting Life

Most of us wonder what the best way is to achieve a long and happy life, what it takes to age gracefully, or what the true key to longevity is.  Shhh, we’re letting you in on a secret: the key to longevity isn’t as hard as it might seem! We’ve compiled some tips on how to live longer, be happier, and live healthier!

Get Moving

Find ways to incorporate fitness into your daily life.  Get up 20 minutes earlier and take a brisk walk around your neighborhood.   During your lunch break, find a friend or co-worker to walk with you for a bit.  Join a gym or sign up for a fitness or dance class that sounds fun or challenging to you.  One of the best ways to live longer is to live an active, healthy lifestyle.

Eat Well

A wholesome, well-balanced diet is extremely important.  It’s so easy to go for convenience instead of health when it comes to eating, but taking the time to eat well is key to feeling better and living longer.  Incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into your diet.  Save the greasy cheeseburger and fries for a special occasion, and reduce your portion sizes.

Health Insurance

Use your health insurance to your advantage.  For many people, health insurance is used just for emergency situations. Instead of using your insurance coverage only when you’re sick, start using it when you’re healthy, too.  Actively make your routine checkup appointments.  Are there fitness or healthy living classes that your health care provider offers regularly?  Are there newsletters to sign up for that give tips for healthy living? Check out what’s offered and strategize how you can use it to keep your body and mind strong.

Don’t Sweat It

Don’t sweat it. Kids are crying, the bills are piling up, and your head is throbbing. Stress is real and it can take a real toll on physical health if it continues regularly. So, find time to relax. It’s ok to rest, read a book, turn on some music, or chat with a friend. Or, take a small vacation to get your mind off your regular routine.

Laugh!

Laughter can help reduce stress and even better, burn calories and relax you! So rent a comedy, get together with a friend that makes you laugh, read the comics, or head out to a comedy club.
