Almonds Prevent Diabetes & Heart Disease?

Researchers have found that a diet rich in almonds will reduce your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and/or Heart Disease.

In fact, during the course of this 16 week experiment, test subjects who consumed 20% of their calories from almonds showed significantly improved LDL-cholesterol levels and measures of insulin sensitivity – both major risk factors for heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

And when you consider that over 16 million Americans are currently pre-diabetic, supplementing their diet with almonds or other nuts high in monounsaturated fat becomes a pretty great idea.

Of course we should also remember that nuts are high in calories and that instead of adding almonds to our current diet of hamburgers, potato chips and ice cream, it would be a better idea to eliminate some of the junk before chowing down on a handful of almonds.

    I think it’s great to add almonds to a healthy diet, but I don’t think it would be possible to add that much almonds to my diet.

    Today I come to know totally new thing from your post, I never heard from almonds is work like a medicine for diabetic but I want to know one more think, Is there any criteria for eating almonds as a medicine, it means there is any age limitation.

    Hey Doug, that’s pretty exciting news though it sounds like you would have to eat a ton of almonds to consume 20% of your calories from them. For those with pre-diabetes, there’s actually a fair number of different types of foods that can help lower blood sugar from onions, blueberries, green tea, and cinnamon as examples.

      Both groups of test subjects were also eating an “ADA approved” diet – very different than the average Joe.

      Back in the day, I put a client on a very drastic ketogenic diet consisting of meat, mixed nuts and water.

      Miserable, but the body-fat melted off like crazy and ALL of his health markers improved to his doctor’s chagrin
