Blueberries Can Banish Your Big Belly
Previous research has shown that blueberries are a true superfood:
- Supercharging your immune system,
- Neutralizing free radicals,
- Improving your vision,
- Promoting the health of your brain,
- Maximizing heart health,
- Preventing metabolic syndrome, and
- Keeping your GI & urinary tracts running smooth
And if that wasn’t enough, there have even been a few studies in the last few years suggesting that blueberries may help to prevent obesity.
Following up on that research, scientists out of Texas Woman’s University have determined that blueberry polyphenols can indeed inhibit obesity at the molecular level.
The Science
The researchers found that blueberry polypenols disrupted the creation of fat cells (adipocytes) and induced the breakdown of existing fat cells (lipolysis). This effect increased in relation to the size of the dose. The highest dose of blueberry polyphenols yielded a 73% decrease in lipids; the lowest dose showed a 27% decrease.
And while this research is going to require a lot of further study on humans before drug companies can sell us a prescription blueberry anti-fat pill…the raw ingredients are pretty safe to experiment with.
They’re also delicious in my morning smoothie.

Im never sure about eating fruit. I try to follow a low carb diet, and although I love fruit of all kinds (and I live in Florida where Im surrounded by it) I seem to put on weight when I eat it. It is very difficult to know what to do.
