Boxing Your Way to a Ripped Physique!

Boxers are known for their lithe and sturdy physiques but this type of body does not come easily.  It takes a lot of time, energy and persistence for a boxer to mentally and physically condition themself to compete in the ring.  The great thing is that you can have such a body if you follow their training regime.

The best thing you can invest in on your way to developing a boxer’s type of body is a heavy punching bag.  Punching and kicking this heavy bag will strengthen every part of your physique from your arms, shoulders, triceps, biceps, core, glutes, legs etc through the resistance from the weight.  If you can’t obtain a heavy punching bag you can improvise in whatever way you can by filling a sack with dirt or something.  Be creative.

Many boxers do not necessarily train with weights and that is good news if you do not have access to a gym or a set of weights.  Boxers build up their strength by getting involved in a lot of high intensity workouts like circuit training.  Circuit training places emphasis on the speed as to which you can perform a series of resistance exercises.  Therefore, you might spend 2 non stop minutes doing push ups, pullups, jumping jacks, burpees and squats then take a 30 second break before going at it again.  This will help to strengthen and tone your muscles.  You might not develop huge muscles like a body builder but functional and effective muscles that will still look good.

Boxers do a lot of cardiovascular workouts because they need to last three to four-minute rounds of boxing without tiring.  This is no easy feat and emphasis has to be placed on increasing aerobic capacity which is the ability of the body to transport oxygen throughout the body.  Fit people have a high aerobic capacity which means they get tired less easily when performing physical activities like walking and jogging.

Skipping is a great aerobic exercise and is popular among boxers so I would advise investing in a good skipping rope.  It might take some time to get used to skipping if you are not accustomed to it but it is a really great leg workout.
