Female Cyclists may be Ruining their Sexual Health

This article is for all those women who looooooove their Spin Class.

A new study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that female cyclists who place their handlebars lower than their bike seats are prone to:

  • increased pressure on the genital region,
  • decreased genital sensation,
  • potential damage to the genital nerves,
  • potential sexual dysfunction

According to study author Dr. Marsha K. Guess, “there are a myriad of factors affecting women’s sexual function. If women can minimize pressure application to the genital tissues merely by re-positioning their handlebars higher, to increase sitting upright, and thereby maximize pressure application to the woman’s sit bones, then they are one step closer to maintaining their very important sexual health.”
