Fight Aging With These 3 Superfruits

Never underestimate the power of a tiny berry.

If you’re looking for a natural solution for the effects of aging, look no further than your nearest grocery store. There, you’ll find acai, blueberry, and raspberry —three superfruits rich in antioxidants that fight aging and prevent disease.

The Disease-Fighting Acai Berry

Acai berry is extremely high in antioxidants— in fact, acai purportedly contains 10 times the antioxidants of red grapes. [1]These antioxidants destroy free radicals, which damage cells and cause premature cellular aging.

Research indicates acai displays exceptional activity against free radicals. [2] Along with reversing the effects of aging, this antioxidant function may also reduce heart disease and cancer risk. [3]

Acai is also packed with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins. [4] Omega-3s may slow aging by preserving DNA segments in white blood cells. Omega-3s also lower inflammation, which relieves symptoms of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s. [5]

The Brain-Boosting Blueberry

Blueberries contain age-fighting polyphenols, which were found to increase lifespan and slow age-related declines in a nematode (roundworm). [6] This provides a powerful motive for human studies to be conducted on blueberries and aging.

In addition, blueberry fends off aging’s impact on the brain by decreasing oxidative stress. For example, in one study, blueberry enhanced the production of a certain protein that strengthens the brain’s response to stress. It also improved protection against brain conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. [7]

Blueberries also boost memory, inhibiting age-related memory decline.  In a study on older adults, blueberries improved memory tasks such as paired associate learning and word list recall. [8]

The Age-Reversing Raspberry

Raspberries contain several powerful components that prevent aging and disease.

For example, ellagic acid carries significant antioxidant activity, which inhibits certain cancers. Specifically, ellagic acid stops cancer cell growth and induces apoptosis, or cell death. [9]

Anthocyanin, another substance in raspberry, prevents bacterial and fungal growth. [10] Bacteria and fungi infections cause inflammation, which results in visible signs of aging like wrinkles. They can also lead to cancer, arthritis, and other diseases. [11] By eating raspberries, you may indirectly reverse aging by preventing inflammation.

Rounding off raspberry’s age-fighting components is vitamin C. Vitamin C’s antioxidant content prevents conditions like heart disease and Alzheimer’s. [12]

Where to Find These Superfruits

Blueberries and raspberries are found at most grocery stores. Although fresh acai is not found in the United States, you can still get the benefits through juices and other acai products. If you opt for a fruit juice, make sure the juices you choose aren’t loaded with sugar or other unhealthy components.

The benefits of these fruits can also be obtained through supplements, which generally supply a higher dose of the berries than you’d get through diet alone. But, many supplements have added ingredients and fillers. Because of this, sometimes the safest bet is to eat the natural berry.

Make sure to buy your acai as a puree (pulp) and it should be bought frozen to ensure maximum nutrition and flavor. The acai juices & powders are all re-processed from acai purees, so they only have a fraction of the nutritional elements that a quality frozen acai puree contains. Just look for pure acai to add your own sweetener and avoid those acai purees that have soy additives. I recommend Amafruits brand organic acai berry purees.

A new book titled Resveratrol, is there a limit to human lifespan, by Dr Betz clearly explains how the advances made over the past 5 years mean that one can essentially extend life by at least 10 years. During this additional healthy life span new developments will almost certainly mean that indefinite life span will be feasible for a healthy person in his or her 60s or younger.
