Having the right mindset is a big part in your healthy lifestyle changes. I’ve experienced  both sides of having a healthy mindset.
- I know I need to make healthy changes.
- I know the food I am eating is unhealthy and the lack of exercise is bad for me but it is overwhelming to get started.
- I am eating right and exercising.
- I am feeling great!
- It’s hard to stay on track but I know the benefits and I’ve made my health a priority in my life.
Unfortunately, it usually takes an extraordinary event to trigger someone to switch mindsets.
For me it was my Mom passing away January 12th, 2010 that flicked my switch. She was 54 years old. I saw her for the last time so weak and sick in the hospital with all of the health problems she lived with due to her obesity. I thought to myself right then that I didn’t want that to be me in 20 years, I wanted to be able to see my grandchildren grow up. For others it is finding out they have cancer, or if they suffer a stroke or heart attack.
So why does this switch take a significant event?
I believe people take advantage of their bodies and don’t look ahead to what they are going to feel like in 20-30 years. That is how I was. Drinking, smoking, overeating, any bad addiction we have takes control of our thoughts and actions.
These addictions don’t allow us to see bigger picture in life, to see what we do to ourselves now will affect our quality of life in 20 plus years. When that significant event occurs, thinking of your future self becomes more important to the point that we switch our mindset and start making changes!
Now the real question is, how can people change their mindset before that event occurs?
Think about how you will be in 20 years from now.
Get in the right mindset now and start making healthy changes!
