Four of the Best iPhone Apps for Counting Calories

When you’re on a diet, you are most likely counting your calories to ensure that what you take in is within an acceptable amount to help you lose weight. When left alone, counting calories can be a major pain, and it is often so awful, that it is the reason people fall off of their diets.

Thanks to the popularity of apps for smartphones and tablets, counting calories has gotten much easier. The following are four of the best iphone apps for calorie counting.

Best iPhone Apps – Counting Calories?

1. Calorie Counter and Diet Tracker

CalorieCounterandDietTracker has a database of over 1.1 million food items to help you accurately count your calories for whatever food you eat. Along with homemade meals, this app also has accurate calories for fast food items. Plus, it also allows you to input your exercise, so you can have an accurate count of the calories you consumed.

Calorie Counter and Diet Tracker remembers your favorite food items, so there is no need to search for your regular foods every time. It also has a barcode scanner that will use the barcode of an item to determine what it is and how many calories it has. The app also syncs with the web, so you can access your information from anywhere. Plus, you can use the app with your friends, and you can track each other’s progress and use the app to motivate each other.

2. Daily Burn Tracker

DailyBurnTracker helps you manage your calories and exercise. This app has over 350,000 food items in its database, and includes pictures and nutritional information for each one. It also has a FoodScanner functionality that scans barcodes to generate accurate information. Along with tracking calories, Daily Burn Tracker also calculates carbs, sodium, fat, protein and fiber.

This app also allows you to set individual goals or create your own customized diet plan. If you are new to dieting, Daily Burn Tracker helps walk you through the steps to find a diet and exercise plan that is best for you.

3. Meal Snap

If entering data isn’t for you, and if  exact calorie counting isn’t for you, MealSnap will be. Rather than relying on you to tell them what you eat, you can take a picture of the food or meal, and Meal Snap will not only tell you what you’re eating, but also provide you with an estimate as to how many calories you just consumed too.

Meal Snap allows you to categorize your meals as browse through your past pictures to access your logged meals. You can also share your meals through Foursquare, Twitter and Facebook.

4. My Diet Diary

MyDietDiary keeps track of your exercise, food, water consumption and weight to help you stay on track to achieve your dieting goals. Throughout the day, My Diet Diary will create line graphs every hour to show you how you’re doing and if you’re on track to lose weight. If you find that you have already consumed the majority of your calorie intake and it’s not even lunch, you will need to adjust your food choices and exercise for the remainder of the day.

The food tracker function allows to keep track of the food you eat throughout the day, and the app will calculate your calories. You can also record your workouts to see how many calories you have burned.

I hope they have a larger database since some products here in our country can’t be scanned.
