Keeping yourself fit and healthy is even more important when you are carrying a baby. Your body will go through an incredible amount of changes, especially within the first trimester. There are things that you can do to help cope with these changes and make the transition as smooth as possible, eating correctly and getting both exercise and rest will help keep mom and her baby fit and healthy.

These three things are essential in order to keep your immune system up, which gets depleted when pregnant, and helps fight off germs and infection.
Eating the right foods
You really do not have to double your intake of food when you are pregnant. You are not eating for two! Generally your body can get all of the nutrients that it requires for both you and the baby from a well-balanced diet. In some cases there are a percentage of women who may need some sort of supplement to their diet such as iron, but if you eat correctly then you should be ok. If in doubt consult your physician regards prenatal vitamin supplements. Lots of vegetables, especially the green leafy king is good for you, along with fruit and homemade meals, rather than pre prepared or processed meals. Some people are daunted by cooking but there are loads of great tasting recipes which are quick and easy to prepare, available on the internet for free.
Taking the 20 minutes it takes to prepare your dinner from scratch will allow you to control exactly what is put in your body giving you great control of your diet. Try and stay away from fatty and sugary foods and remember the more weight you put on during your pregnancy, the more you will have to lose afterwards to get back to your normal weight. You can still include cakes and chocolate in your diet if you have a sweet tooth, you just need to not eat these types of food regularly and save them as a treat or reward.
Getting plenty of exercise
You may find that you become very lethargic and tired during your pregnancy and this is usually your bodyâ€™s way of saying slow down a bit. You do need to make sure that you get plenty of rest during your pregnancy and get a good nightâ€™s sleep every night. It is also advised to keep active as well, taking care to not push too far so that you do not overdo things.
These are all excellent forms of exercise which you can do during your pregnancy to help keep you fit and healthy. Swimming is by far the best as it is low impact on the joints as your bodyweight is supported by the water, and it exercises all of the muscles. If it is not convenient or you are unable to go swimming, then get a DVD or book and try taking up yoga. You can do this in the comfort of your own home and even put your favourite music on whilst your exercise. Remember to not exert yourself too much and always consult your physician before changing your diet or taking up an exercise regime when you are pregnant.
Make yourself feel good
A lot of women get frustrated when they are pregnant, feeling uncomfortable with their size and not liking the clothes that they had to wear. Well it was a lot worse 25 years ago or so when the styles of maternity clothes on offer were very unflattering or appealing. Now days there are all sorts of designer maternity clothes on offer such as Ripe, Sacha Drake, nearly Nude and Camilla to mention a few.
With the advent of internet shopping you can now find a wide selection of good quality and affordable maternity clothes online at a wide range of outlets which cater towards good quality maternity clothes which are at a great price. They also tend to offer a wider range of colours and sizes when buying online as opposed to visiting your local high street. So if all the changes to your body are leaving you feel bloated and frustrated, treat yourself to some gorgeous maternity clothes which will make you look and feel a lot better.
