Phthalates in your flip flops

Before you head out to the beach this weekend, you may want to consider what you’re wearing on your feet.

A 2010 report (commissioned by the Danish Ministry of the Environment) found that  plastic / foam sandals are loaded with endocrine disrupting phthalates.

They also found that those flip flop phthalates were leaching into peoples’ feet.

And to make things even worse, they found that sunscreens and other lotions made the leeching even worse.

So….unless you’re cool with the potential side effects of phthalates…

  • Birth defects
  • male child feminisation via changed hormone levels
  • neonatal and adult reproductive disorders
  • disrupted metabolism
  • obesity
  • liver damage
  • teste damage
  • allergies
  • ADHD

…you may want to throw away those dollar store flip-flops and buy yourself a new pair made from fabric, cork, leather, etc.
