Irvignia gabonensis is a mango-like fruit native to West Africa that’s also been show to promote weight loss by increasing your body’s levels of adiponectin.  Green tea itself and even coffee have also been shown to increase levels of adiponectin.

As promising as the studies on raspberry ketones for promoting weight loss have been in trials on mice, there is only one published human trial on raspberry ketone usage in humans–specifically a trial that suggests topical application of raspberry ketone promotes hair growth and skin elasticity.

Calcium Supplements

In a breakdown of seven recent studies on calcium and weight loss, researcher concluded that a small but significant reduction in body fat was associated with calcium supplementation in overweight and obese people. Because calcium supplements can have an effect on other medication, always consult with your physician to ensure this is the right approach for you.  One word of caution is that some research suggests that calcium supplements when taken without vitamin D have been associated with an increased risk of having a heart attack.

Vitamin D

Another study found that higher dietary calcium and vitamin D intake was associated with a greater diet reduced weight loss. It is also said that for the proper absorption of calcium, one needs to have adequate amounts of vitamin D present.

Garcinia Cambogia

Whey Protein

Whey protein was once reserved for body builders and gym rats, ninety overweight and obese subjects were randomized to receive whey protein, soy protein or carbohydrates in addition to their normal free choice diet. After twenty-three weeks the whey protein was associated with reductions in body weight, fat mass and waist circumference.

Saffron Extract

In a double blind study sixty healthy, yet mildly overweight women were randomized to receive either saffron extract or a placebo. After eight weeks the saffron group lost significantly more weight. The saffron group snacked less, leading researchers to conclude that saffron increased satiety.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Fish Oil

As we age, the amount of fat in our bone marrow increases as our bone mass decreases. One study observed the relation of fish oil and Conjugated Linoleic Acid  (CLA) on this effect of aging. For six months mice ate corn oil, CLA, fish oil or CLA and fish oil. The group that combined the fish oil and CLA had reduced their body weight, BMI; and had enhanced bone mineral density and muscle mass. This group also had improved liver health and insulin sensitivity.

Green Tea

Green tea contains active plant ingredients called catechins. One analysis reported that the combination of catechins and naturally occurring caffeine in green tea decreased body weight and helps to keep it off.
