New year is now in full swing and chances are you are back into the routine of the daily grind and back to reality. Did you make any resolutions this year? Maybe you decided to quit a bad habit, lose some weight or learn Spanish? Why not be a little more ambitious though and make a resolution to dedicate 2012 to becoming the best you that you can be?
Self-improvement starts with a positive mental attitude and there are plenty of ways that you can improve your life and health by making small positive changes. Here are 4 tips to get you started.
Start Eating Right
No, I don’t mean starting a diet, starving yourself for a few weeks to lose weight that you will only put back on isn’t a good way to kick off your year. But why not make the decision now to start eating better?
Make time in your week to cook some veggies, make a stew or eat some extra fruit. Making this simple change will make you feel healthier; the difference after just a week or two will be noticeable and positive and will likely give you the motivation to keep going with more positive changes in your life.
Take Up A Hobby
I’m not into treadmills or any kind of cardio for that matter – going to the gym just isn’t fun and taking up a membership, well intended as it may be will not get me in shape – if this is the case for you too, then don’t waste your motivation where it won’t be effective.
Instead why not try to find a new hobby this year? For me it is roller skating; it is exciting, challenging and brilliant fun – I can literally spend hours doing it and it doesn’t feel like exercise at all. Joining a gym and eventually realising that you have wasted your time and money is awful for your mental health, but finding a way to actually enjoy and look forward to exercising is a brilliant thing that will stay with you all year and onwards.
Sort Out Your Relationships
This may or may not apply to you, but let’s face it, whether you are single, dating or married with kids, everyone could be better in their relationships. Whilst you are making all of these positive changes in your life, why not enjoy them with your partner and use them as a well to spend more time together.
If you are single, perhaps your new hobby could also be a way to meet new people. Not necessarily just people to date, but new friends to expand your horizons.
Make A Plan
Ok, it’s all very well me throwing all of these ideas at the wall, but to make them stick we need a plan, so that’s where you should start; whether you are most excited about getting adventurous in the kitchen or out and about.
Take small but decisive steps right now and build some momentum – trust me, as soon as you get going you will feel the difference and that alone will spur you on to do more.
