Are You Sleeping Next to a Loud Snorer? Your Dentist Can Help with Sleep Apnea Dentistry

Many people suffer nightly from a spouse or loved one who snores loudly, preventing anyone within ear shot from getting a good nights sleep. It may not be the first person who comes to mind, but it is important to know that your dentist can help address snoring issues with sleep apnea dentistry. Snoring is often associated with bad jokes and jabbing elbows in the middle of the night, but loud habitual snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea. The disorder often causes excessive snoring, which can cause relationship problems and disrupt sleep. Luckily, a sleep apnea dentist can offer several effective treatment options that may relieve chronic snoring.

Sleep apnea dentists use oral appliances to treat patients with mild to moderate cases of the disorder. These effective treatments are easy to use and less invasive than traditional CPAP devices.

The most common dental sleep apnea solution is a mandibular advancement device (MAD). MADs look like the mouth guards athletes wear, but instead of protecting your teeth, they lower your jaw forward to keep your airways open.

Tongue retaining devices (TRDs) are another treatment option for patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea. Using a splint, these devices push the tongue down gently to open the airways. Both MADs and TRDs help you breathe better so you can sleep better.

Oral appliances are most effective when sleep apnea is caused by restrictive airway obstructions, like excess throat tissue, an enlarged uvula or a large tongue. When used to treat mild or moderate cases of the disorder, oral appliances lead to a reduction in symptoms, enabling you to sleep more soundly.

Even if someone has been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, dentists can recommend alternatives to invasive CPAP machines. Together, today’s sleep apnea dentists will find a treatment that works for you so you can stop snoring and start getting more restful sleep.

Don’t think that a person’s loud and persistent snoring is something that has to be accepted, discuss sleep apnea treatments with your dentist today.

    Hello Jason

Yes hopefully they will work for you. Just make sure it is only snoring you are suffering from first, and not a more serious condition.

    Thanks
